Background
AmXpress has served customers in China and Hong Kong for 15 years. We provide certified analytical standards and chromatography products to researchers and scientists for accessing the effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP) or Food Safety. We represent Accustandard, Chiron, Dr Ehrenstorfer, Witega, and ISGAS ( Ideal Specialty Gases & Analytical Services).
What is POP?
Persistent organic pollutants are mostly man-made chemicals, that are resistant to environmental degradation. These organic compounds are known to accumulate in human and animal tissues, and therefore could have adverse effects on human health.
Chemicals on the original POP’s list
In May 1995, the UNEP Governing Council had identified twelve categories:
Aldrin, Chlordane, DDT, Mirex, Dieldrin, Toxaphene, Endrin, Heptachlor, Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Hexachlorobenzene, Dioxin, Furans.
RoHS
Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2002/95/EC - a EU directive took effect on July 1, 2006. This directive restricts the use of six categories of hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. It is closely linked with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC. The six categories are:
- Lead
- Mercury
- Cadmium
- Hexavalent chromium (Chromium VI or Cr6+)
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)
